Call for proposals “Incentives for NOO R&D projects” – Virtus Platform

C&G d.o.o. Ljubljana was in a project partnership with Art Rebel 9 d.o.o.  selected at the public call Ministry of Economic Development and Technology entitled “Public call for incentives for research and development projects of RRP” for the implementation of the project “Virtual reality system for sustainable knowledge transfer in electric power engineering” (acronym of the project: “Virtus”), co-financed by the Republic of Slovenia and the European Union under the Recovery and Resilience Fund (www.noo.gov.si).

The goal of the project is to develop  an innovative technological platform called Virtus, which enables the creation of adaptive learning environments in virtual reality (VR). With the help of the VR platform, the project will also create the first learning environment for the fields of hazardous work in the electric power industry, an industry that faces the challenge of transferring knowledge to new generations in an extremely short time, thus compensating for the loss of more than half of the most experienced workforce that will retire in the next 5-10 years. The virtual reality learning environment brings a solution to this challenge, because with innovative solutions for adding learning content, designing learning grounds, scenarios and dangerous and stressful situations, it will enable the training of maintainers, repairers and installers without the need to build a large number of physical training grounds that would otherwise be required for this. Physical installation and operation polygons require extremely large amounts of natural resources, are a source of unnecessary waste and contain hazardous substances (mineral oils, greenhouse gases) that pose a significant risk to the environment. By developing a virtual learning environment, we will be able to prevent these negative environmental impacts and at the same time significantly exceed the quality of trainings carried out in existing polygons.

By 2024, we will establish a virtual learning process in virtual reality and develop a VR mobile application and learning content editing interface.

Project duration: 28. 10. 2022 – 30. 11. 2024

Total financial value of the project: 557,725,54€

Co-financing amount: 299,962,83€

Funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU plan

The investment is part of the measures of Slovenia’s plan, which is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. The project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
